when you visit coimbra, expect to experience rich culture, stunning scenery and delicious, authentic cuisine. honestly we might be suspicious but coimbra is such a charming city with a vibrant food scene. this city has something to satisfy every palate… in today’s article, I'll take you on a gastronomic journey and introduce you to some of the best restaurants in town!
1. SAFRA
safra is the new restaurant in downtown coimbra. we always have an excellent experience at safra. don't expect anything less! know that you'll want to come back again and again and again. the food is excellent and the service is impeccable. the ambience is great. from the moment you walk in, you feel welcome and the attention to detail from the staff and sergio (the chef) will make the experience unforgettable! the menu offers a delightful array of dishes and each one is a culinary masterpiece. unique, creative and tasty - that's my honest review.
2. MA
seeking for a top-notch dining experience? MA restaurant is the answer. this restaurant has been on my list since it opened. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but the reviews are excellent. MA is a high-end culinary experience. the quality of the food, its presentation, the wine selection and the expertise of the waiters... make it the best japanese restaurant in town that promises and has everything to be one of the best japanese restaurants in the country, I dare say. don't forget to book as there is a limited number of tables.
3. IZAKAIA ONI
the japanese word izakaya (居酒屋) is made up of three kanji (chinese characters) with the meaning “stay-drink-place”. izakaya is a traditional japanese bar where drinks are served with different affordable snacks and dishes, such as this amazing place! this small restaurant is the perfect place to grab a drink, settle in and make yourself comfortable. the food is extremely tasty and the staff are very friendly. if you're in town and want to feel like you're anywhere in japan, this is the place to go. the kitchen is open so you can see all the ingredients, and you'll experience the best spices and dishes you could wish for in an oriental restaurant.
4. ARCADAS, QUINTA DAS LÁGRIMAS
if you're looking for an elegant dinner, this prestigious restaurant in the old stables of quinta das lágrimas has a dining room that opens onto beautiful gardens with fruit trees and herbs that provide the ingredients for the meal to come. the dishes, created by star chef vitor dias, are perfectly presented and full of powerful and unusual flavors. expect a tasting menu and and an exquisite service.
5. SPAGHETTI NOTTE
this restaurant is a lovely place with a wonderful italian menu that feels fresh and modern. from starters to main courses to dessert, the food is absolutely delicious! the restaurant itself is charming and definitely one of the best italian restaurants in town. try the fabulous gnocchi and do not miss dessert. the desserts are outstanding. spaghetti notte is a must try if you love authentic Italian food.
